Where Is The Fun In The Feok Games?

The introduction of football games is one of the most laudable ideas in the Feok celebrations in recent years. Through footballing fun, these games were supposed to help foster unity among the various communities in Buluk. The games have now become a part and parcel of pre-Feok activities.

The 'fun' component of the games seems to have been lost. One would have thought that since the games were mainly to create fun and not to win laurels, anybody could be chosen, whether they are football savvy or not, to represent their community.

I have watched these games for some time now and can conclude that the purpose of the games has been defeated. There are allegations every time about importation of players from other parts of the country to participate in the games. The acrimony that greets the 'fun' games is so alarming. Must only football players be those qualified to play in 'fun' games!

I may be mistaken, but there is no reason why footballers have to be hired to play for any locality. Anybody in the community should qualify to play so long as they have an interest in doing so. The elderly can even participate. There should not be an elimination of teams because we want to familiarize ourselves and unite for a common cause. Don't get me wrong; there has to be a winner and losers.

But we shouldn't make it look like a league. If we want to showcase the talents of our amateur Bulsa football players to the rest of Ghana, we should create a different platform for that and invite football scouts from the various teams in the Ghana Premier League to attend.

The current situation is totally unwarranted and unacceptable. Why should fun games create enmity between people? With spectators openly declaring a dislike for some localities and the violence that characterizes these games, I beg to differ if this is the kind of fun the planners envisioned.

The disturbances at the stadium have assumed alarming proportions and need a police presence to ensure calm. Some people are just intolerant and abusive. They get intoxicated with alcohol and go there to worry about others. From the abuse of linesmen and referees to players and other spectators, they have a leeway. Some even become self-appointed coaches and shout at players, referees, linesmen, and other spectators.

So, where is the 'fun' in the Feok festival fun games?
