The Year 2017 In Review

The year 2017 was an eventful one on THE ROAD TO SANDEMA. As is usual of every society, there were high and low moments. First, was the Paramount Chief's message to all Bulsa to introspect on the progress made the previous year and to contribute more meaningfully to the development of Buluk. Many citizens applauded him for the good call with a few denigrating his name at drinking spots. But, largely, the message was accepted. See Buluk, Where Are You?

The Feok festival also happened in December of the previous year, 2016. Many participants were not happy about how its organization was done and the obvious lack of dynamism in the Feok celebrations. Watch PHOTOS: Feok Festival 2016 Final Rehearsals

Since there was a change in government at the 2016 polls, new MMDCEs were to be appointed to succeed their predecessors and steer government business at the local government level. Buluk also got her turn, but not without rancor. Beginning with the Bulsa North DCE's appointment, a violent demonstration was held and the Bulsa North NPP constituency office vandalized by their own members. Later, there was reconciliation and the DCE finally got endorsed by more than two-thirds of assembly members. Since assuming office, he has impressed most citizens of the Bulsa North constituency.

The Bulsa South district had similar challenges as the North but at a lesser magnitude, with some people accusing him of gambling since he ever worked as an agent for the botched DKM Diamond Microfinance. He was also eventually endorsed massively by assembly members with more than two-thirds of votes cast. He is also doing fantastic and winning the hearts of many. Six months had passed with nothing being said about the Feok festival for 2017. To blaze the trail for a discussion online and also at the decision-making table, THE ROAD TO SANDEMA, a blog that discusses issues and events pertaining to Buluk and Bulsa, came up with some ideas to consider in this year's Feok plan by the then yet-to-be-formed Feok festival planning committee. Eventually, some of the proposed ideas were implemented and this year's celebration got a lot better. For instance, moving the day of archery back to make sure it happens before the grand durbar.

Then came the Feok festival fun games which hardly qualify to be fun games. Apart from the usual open disagreements and invasion by trouble-loving citizens being absent this time around compared to the past, there was nothing spectacular about the games this year. We had to question at some point, Where Is The Fun In The Feok Games?

In December, the Feok festival activities were in full swing. Several war dance rehearsal sessions and other events such as Miss Feok 2017 were in the final stages of fine-tuning skills and whipping up interest. See Feok Festival 2017 In Review
